One of our big ecology projects in Knowle Park Community is establishing a new hedgerow along the western and southern boundaries of the park. We planted a further 420 saplings for this hedgerow yesterday and have another 4,000 on order!
To make the new Knowle Park hedgerow the best it can possibly be, we want to find a volunteer Knowle Park Hedgerow Champion. Could it be you?

About Knowle Park: Knowle Park is a cherished country park and nature reserve known for its scenic beauty and biodiversity. The park is committed to creating a contiguous wildlife corridor that serves as a haven for various species, offering them shelter and sustenance.
Role Summary: As the Hedgerow Champion, you will play a crucial role in the management and restoration of Knowle Park’s hedgerows. Your work will ensure these natural structures thrive, supporting the park’s goal of enhancing local wildlife habitats and ecological connectivity.
Key Responsibilities:
-Hedgerow Management: Oversee the day-to-day care and strategic enhancement of hedgerows within Knowle Park.
-Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, organise, and lead teams of volunteers in maintenance and management activities (once or twice a month).
-Surveying and Reporting: Conduct regular surveys to assess the health and growth of hedgerows and compile reports detailing progress and any issues encountered.
-Funding and Resources: Identify and pursue opportunities to secure funding, donations, and resources necessary for hedgerow improvement, including sourcing trees.
-Education and Outreach: Develop and deliver educational material to park visitors and engage with local community stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of hedgerows for biodiversity.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
-A passion for conservation and wildlife.
-Experience in environmental management, horticulture, or a related field is advantageous.
-Strong leadership skills and experience in coordinating volunteer groups.
-Ability to conduct ecological surveys and basic data analysis.
-Excellent communication skills for educational and promotional purposes.
-Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-Grant writing or fundraising experience is a plus.
