Today marks a special milestone as parkrun celebrates its 20th birthday!
Since it began in 2004 with just 13 runners at Bushy Park in London, parkrun has grown into a global phenomenon that sees thousands of people walk, jog, run, or volunteer every week.
Here at Knowle Park, we’re proud to be the home of Cranleigh parkrun, celebrating its 10th anniversary this Saturday, and Cranleigh junior parkrun.
We witness firsthand the incredible benefits that parkrun brings to our community. Knowle Park is filled with people of all ages and abilities every Saturday and Sunday morning, coming together to improve their physical and mental well-being.
Whether you’re a seasoned runner, just starting your journey to a healthier lifestyle, or eager to support others through volunteering, parkrun is a welcoming community for all.
A new study by Sheffield Hallam University confirms what we see each week—parkrun positively impacts life satisfaction, particularly for those new to regular exercise.
The benefits extend beyond the physical activity; the social connections formed before, during, and after parkrun are just as important. Many participants find new friendships, a sense of community, and a boost in confidence.
We’re excited to be part of parkrun’s journey and eagerly anticipate the many more years ahead. Happy 20th birthday, parkrun!
