Frequently Asked Questions
When are the toilets open?
The WCs are typically open from 8am to 6pm (5pm during the winter), although opening hours vary slightly depending on the schedule of our cleaners and volunteers.
Our Changing Places disabled WC is accessible during these time with a standard Radar key.
What happens with lost property?
In the first instance, check with Heartwork Coffee or Moooh! Ice Cream in their kiosks by the adventure playground to see if your lost property has been handed in. At the end of the day, we move lost property to our workshop. Please speak to the Park Manager, Grant, or email hello@knowlepark.org.uk
Are dogs welcome in Knowle Park?
We welcome well-behaved dogs in Knowle Park. Dogs must always be kept on a lead in areas north of public footpath 393 (the footpath that runs through the middle of the park, connecting Knowle Lane and Alfold Road). Dogs must be kept out of the lake and Littlemead Brook. All dog fouling must be picked up and disposed of correctly in all parts of the park.
Can I get food and drink in the park?
Yes! We’re delighted to welcome Moooh! Ice Cream and Heartwork Coffee to Knowle Park. You can find their purpose-built kioks between the adventure play ground and lake.
Please check with them to confirm their opening hours before making a special visit.
What are the car park charges?
Our car park is open from 6am to 8pm, and it is managed by Euro Carparks. The parking tariff is 80p up to one hour, £1.50 for two hours, £2 for three hours, £3 for four hours, and £3.50 all-day (until 8pm).
Additional fees may apply when using parking apps.
The car park is managed with fixed and mobile automatic numberplate recognition cameras. Please read the terms and conditions carefully, and do not park in the car park after 8pm/before 6am, to avoid receiving a Parking Charge Notice.
100% of the car parking tariffs are paid to Knowle Park Trust to help pay for the management and maintenance of the park, although we do not receive any revenue from Parking Charge Notices.
Are e-scooters allowed in the park?
No. E-scooters are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988 and are illegal to ride on private land (without permission from the landowner) or the public footpath that runs through the middle of the park.
Anyone found riding an e-scooter in Knowle Park will be reported to the police.
Is the park always open?
The park is open at all times, but the car park closes at 8pm.
Are there baby changing facilities?
Yes! There’s a baby changing unit (and nappy bin) in the unisex WC closest to Knowle Lane.
Who created the park?
Knowle Park was donated and funded by Nick and Rowena Vrijland, and Alan Spriggs. The park is now owned by a charity, the Knowle Park Trust, which is managed by voluntary trustees.
The Trust employs a park manager, Grant Pearman, and works with a large team of volunteers to look after the parkland.
Can I swim in the lake?
No. There is strictly no swimming in the lake to protect the ecology of this environment, prevent drowning risk, and avoid damage to lakeside planting.
Can we cycle throughout Knowle Park?
Yes! Cyclists are welcome. Please be considerate to other park users by giving way to pedestrians and not cycling at excessive speeds. There are cycle racks near the playground and lakeside lawn.
